My kitchen scale, Old Faithful, finally went to visit the big scale in the sky. I use my kitchen scale daily. I have recipes that demand the precision of a gram scale. I also make homemade dog and cat food and I measure they're portions. The one problem I had with my old scale was that if I put a container that was too large on the platform, it would obscure the readout. At first I was going to opt for the Oxo Good Grips Scale with the removable readout, then I ran across the Kamenstein. The price was attractive, as well as the style. Since the readout is to the side, I figured this would solve my problem.I was surprised at the heft of the scale, once I received it. It is a good, solid scale. Indeed, the readout being offset, allows me to put large containers on the platform, without obscuring the readout. The back lit readout makes it very easy to read. Although the footprint of the scale is a bit larger than my old scale, it's only 1 1/2" high, from the bottom of the feet to the top of the platform, making it easy to sit in a drawer. The total length from the end of the readout bar to the widest point on the platform is 9 1/2"; the platform is 7 1/2" in diameter. So, if you have a drawer that is at least 8" wide on the inside, 10" long, and 2" deep, the scale will fit nicely. I have other precision scales in the house for other uses, so I used their calibrating weights; the Kamenstein scale is very accurate.*Note* When the scale comes, it will have 3 rubber spacers between the platform and bottom; remove them! Also, the included battery was bad, even though it wasn't installed and had the plastic wrap in place. Since I didn't buy the scale based on the included 9v battery, I simply replaced it.The scale is pretty nice and the measuring part works well. Its small enough to easily store anywhere and big enough to put a large bowl on top. I like that the display is a little to the side, which allows you a good access to it, even if a large bowl is on top. My only issue is that after standing in the pantry for some time, it started to turn on by itself, which is wasting battery for no reason. I just took the battery out when it is not in use. Hence I took one star away. These scales are fun and easy to use and extremely accurate and a great bargain at $12.49 (November 5, 2014). I bought them to replace another electronic food scale that maxes out at 5 pounds and they are in synch to the tenth of an ounce, or to the nearest gram - essentially accurate to approximately 1/1,000 of the item measured. They "tare" to zero, display in a bright easy-to-read format, and the big circular plate makes it simple to weigh ungainly food without it falling off. I bring them to "upscale" food stores like Trader Joe's that do not have scales and use them to weigh fruit (sold by the each) or baked good - which vary as much as 4-5 oz. for the "home-baked" selections.I bought this scape to replace one I had gotten years ago as a gift. This one however while I love the red color does not measure as accurately as my previous one. It will not do odd numbers in grams. I need 35 grams of something and it will only measure 34 or 36This scale is working nice for me. I have just had it a short time, but so far it is just what I wanted. I would like a package that opens easier and one that can be used for storage of the scale. If you open it very carefully, maybe you can use the package as storage, but it is not easy to open.UPDATED REVIEW. I've had this scale since January 2015 and just last week, it quit. I tried changing the battery, cleaning the buttons in front, but nothing worked. I was hoping to keep this quite a while because I really like the readout. But alas. I checked for warranty information and there is none. I'd like to buy another, but I'm hesitant because of the quality. I wish I could find a good scale and I thought this was it. Now I have to start searching again.I have had this scale for just shy of one week and I love it. I not only use it in the kitchen, but also I use it for weighing packages for shipping. I haven't put anything on it heavier than 5 pounds. It is very accurate and I never have trouble with it unless it's operator error (not putting the bowl or plate on it before turning it on). I L.O.V.E. the color. It's small enough I can put it easily on my very, very, very small counter space. I am very, very satisfied with it so far. I will update if my opinion changes.Love it, read the other reviews and took out the 3 rubber feet. Since I have owned it I have dropped it, thrown it (I have nerves in my hand that give out) tripped on it and it still weighs out my lye to the .0 ounce accurately and is still a gorgeous red all over, people who buy my soaps love how it looks and it matches my kitchen. Also the wide platform is awesome if I spill or add anything onto the scale :)
